Hello!

Just wanted to briefly introduce myself and ask a few questions ;-)

I was actually in the process of evaluatind Zend Framework when I came
across Pauls blog posting with the benchmark tests. As Solar came out
tops but was the only name I hadn't heard of I decided to research a bit
further. I must say, I am impressed with what I have read so far on
solarphp.net - I particularly like the fact that there are plenty of
examples unlike ZF where the documentation is good but really intended
as a reference for people that know the framework, not ideal for getting
started. Various ZF tutorials floating around are mainly for older
versions :-(

At first I really liked the idea behind ZF, but Pauls benchmarking
really got me thinking about the performance. I agree that it is good to
have a robust framework for development, but in production there is no
real need for checking if files and classes exist. I would hope that the
idea of flagging this to turn it on and off will get into a future
version of ZF but at first glance, Solar doesn't seem to have this
problem and the examples seem very logical and self explanatory (I
haven't downloaded or actually tested anything yet!)

I would however like to know a bit more about the future of Solar: When
is beta planned? When final release? Does anyone have sample
applications demonstrating how everything fits together (simple page,
data list view, data detail view, master template with blocks)? Would be
grateful for anything like this to get started quickly so that I could
get a chance to demonstrate definitive advantages of Solar versus ZF - a
team decision about which framework to settle on for future development
is due in the next few weeks...

Thanks and best wishes from "sunny germany"

Jon Gilbert
