Welcome to Solar. I hope you love working with it as I do! :)
About the branches, as an user I would suggest you to use the trunk
and keep an eye on the model branch, and play with it if you can and
start bringing your discoveries as it evolves. It is still changing
too much, because it is a major - and very awaited - improvement for
the Solar_Sql_* classes.

Paul can be more accurate if needed, but as I see the changes are in
almost all Solar_Sql_* classes: some methods are deprecated, new
standards are introduced and some adaptations are done for the new
Solar_Sql_Model family. The focus are in the Sql_* classes, and it
seems that most things that uses them will be affected (models, table
modules, adapters etc).

We hope that it will be soon. :) I can't help answering this; I only
can say that it is a huge work and although I'm following it with a
lot of enthusiasm I wouldn't expect a deadline to be defined right
now.
