Hi Oscar. Indeed, with dotdeb.org at least Debian users are not 6-8
months behind the curve, and I think FreeBSD also offers packages for
the latest versions in a short time. I have used dotdeb's PHP package
once and my MySql install is still from there. If I remember well I
started compiling PHP because dotdeb didn't had phpize in the build,
and since then I stayed compiling it myself. I also prefer very much
to use packages when there is a package. PHP became a common exception
for the rule, and it is not a big deal after all.
